21 million bit coins is not enough to go round?

Crowd Source Capital (CSC)  Memo

The idea that 21 million bit coins isn't enough or doesn't scale shows a fundamental lack of understanding the atomic make up of bit coin.

One bitcoin is divisible down to 8 decimal places . There are really 2,099,999,997,690,000 ( just over 2 quadrillion) maximum possible atomic units in bitcoin design.

The value of 1 BTC represents 100,000,000 of these

One BTC is current trading at circa $150 at the time of writing.

As the value of the unit of 1 BTC grows too large to be useful for day to day transactions say 1 BTC goes to $1m  then people can start dealing in smaller units , such as milli-bitcoins (mBTC) or micro-bitcoins (μBTC).

Perhaps this is why hedge funds are now buying bitcoins on a 3,5, and 10 year hold :)

Example a $10,000 investment in bit coins  2011 would have bought  3,333  bit coins which at the time of writing have a value of circa $466k
